The biggest advantage to building a new home is being able to personalize all the little details for your lifestyle and needs. Here is a list of the top 10 trending new home design must-haves. Are they right for you?

1) Gold and brass accents.
Chances are you’ve already noticed that gold accents are trending in new home construction. Have you also noticed brass, a slightly duller version of its shiny cousin? Whatever your preference, gold, and brass bring warmth and richness to a room, adding a touch of “glam,” and implying high-end design. Lamps and lighting, plumbing fixtures, hardware, tile, and even wallpaper are just a few ways to introduce golden accents to your new home.

2) Green Kitchen Cabinets.
Green is the most Instagrammed kitchen color trend this past year. While white kitchens still dominate the category, green kitchen designs are the 2021 color trend to watch. How do you incorporate green into your kitchen? Consider moody green cabinets with nice warm rich wood countertops, steely gray green cabinet lowers mixed with white uppers, or make the kitchen island the focus with a contrasting rich green color palette.

3) Classic subway
Subway tiles are classic for a reason. They are so easy to clean, stain-resistant, inexpensive, and effortlessly stylish, if not a little boring. Today’s subway designs are more interesting with longer tiles, offered in more colors and sculptural with domed and beveled options. The great thing about subway? The possibilities are endless! Mix and match tiles, colors, and have tile installed in herringbone, chevron, brick, and vertical patterns.

4) Patterned tile.
While subway is still the king of tiles, patterns are popping up in various styles and finishes. Shaped tiles, like a hexagon, can be mixed in a variety of colors to create interesting patterns for flooring and backsplashes. Graphic tiles are a way to add personality and make a really bold statement in bathrooms and laundry areas. Terrazzo, with its decorative speckled design, is making a comeback nearly 100 years after it was first made popular. Today’s terrazzo tile colors are more modern and sophisticated.

5) Black stainless.
With the new trend towards dark moody kitchens, many manufacturers are offering black stainless appliances. Homeowners are attracted to the black stainless because it mixes and matches with more design styles and colors. Black stainless appliances also appeal to buyers who are searching for a more modern, neutral tone.

6) Freestanding tub.
Primary bathrooms should be a place of relaxation. If you want to create a home spa vibe in your primary bath, then a freestanding tub is a must! Even in a tight space, a freestanding bathtub elevates the design of any bathroom updating a traditional floorplan with a more modern footprint.

7) Peel and Stick Wallpaper.
Repeating design wallpaper has been around since the 16th century. It’s the bane of DIY renovation because it is so difficult to remove. However, wallpaper is making a comeback with no glue and no long-term commitments! The peel and stick trend with more modern and fun patterns is a great way to update small spaces without long-term commitments. Some of the best uses don’t involve walls! Add wallpaper to stair risers, behind glass cabinets, coffee stations, built-ins, and even show the ceiling some love.

8) White and Black Exteriors.
White and black home exteriors happen to be one of the top color schemes that help homes sell faster. While this combination is truly classic and timeless, it also provides striking curb appeal. Whether your home is white brick or siding, add bold and modern accents with black windows, light fixtures, paint, and metal roofing accents for a modern farmhouse style.

9) Darker moody colors.
Need a break from all the white home designs? Moody tones are popping up post-pandemic. Sherwin Williams even named Urbane Bronze their 2021 color of the year. Dark paint colors feel classic and timeless and make a huge impact in spaces large or small.

10) Built-in storage solutions.
Buyers love custom storage solutions. Built-ins can blend style and function to almost any space. Look for ways to add a drop zone to your entryway to collect hats, shoes, and backpack clutter. Shelving on either side of your fireplace can double as storage and display. Incorporate bench storage in unused nooks and add seating to your breakfast area. Built-in cubbies help make the most of tight laundry room spaces. Built-in trash and recycling bins in the Kitchen make sorting a snap!
